Diablo is a most famous 'hack and slash' role-playing game created by Blizzard and released at the end of 1996 for Windows. Two years later it was released to Macintosh.
It is not only one of the most popular RPG ever created; it's the title that redefined the concept of 'action RPG' and 'hack & slash.' It is so influential that today we still see clones or games inspired by it. When it was released, Diablo was elected Game of the Year, but 30 years later you can always find its name in many lists of the Greatest Games of All Time. Do more with membership.
Initially conceived as a turn-based game by its designer, David Brevik, Diablo was instead changed into a real-time action RPG, where you control the player with the mouse, and clicking is required to move and attack. A marvelous set of skills and spells, computer-generated levels, and tons of items to find and collect, add depth to the gameplay. Maybe only its successor, Diablo II, released in 2000, was able to surpass the awesomeness of Diablo.
Diablo I is no longer available for sale, and it's complicated to run it on modern OSes, anyway, we were able to pack a working version. Unfortunately, we are not able to host the full version, so the music is missing (but you can find it on YouTube, or you can buy it on iTunes).

Diablo is an action/RPG in which you have to make your way through sixteen randomly generated dungeon levels, to the eyeballs filled with monsters and treasures. Your final goal is the demon Diablo, the lord of horror, who became the cause of all the misfortunes that befell not only the quiet village of Tristram, but the whole kingdom.
You can choose who to break through to the cherished goal, although the choice is small, and is limited to only three characters. The warrior is good at melee, and the most durable of the three. A thief (my free translation of the word rogue) prefers to use a bow, but also in close combat is able to give a worthy rebuff. And finally, the magician is unsurpassed in the use of otherworldly forces, but is weak in body, so monsters should not be allowed to approach him at a distance of impact.
There are also a number of random quests that villagers usually give out. Their implementation is optional, but it is worth considering that as a thank you you will definitely get a worthwhile artifact.
The village is a quiet haven where your hero will return after fierce battles to identify things (otherwise their magic abilities cannot be used), heal, buy or repair equipment, learn new spells, and also get rid of unnecessary things.
The graphics of the game are gorgeous. One glance is enough to assess how much labor has been invested in creating gloomy dungeons teeming with monsters, a quiet village and its inhabitants.
The strength of each character is reflected in four indicators - strength, agility, magic and endurance. As you kill monsters, you gain experience. Having gained enough experience, your character raises the level, receiving an addition to lives and mana, as well as five points that can be spent on raising any of these attributes. Strength and agility increase the damage dealt, while agility also increases the chance of hitting. How much mana the character will have depends on the magic parameter, and endurance affects the number of lives. In this case, a warrior from one endurance point receives twice as many lives as a mage. The opposite rule applies to the mage and mana gained from raising magic.
It also depends on physical indicators whether you can put on certain armor, pick up more powerful weapons, or read a magic book. It is logical that there are also objects that can raise these indicators when worn. Equipment items are randomly generated. An exception is artifacts, which have tremendous power compared to other magical things, but are extremely rare.
All classes are able to use spells, although the magician does this most effectively. Spells come in the form of one-time scrolls or books that the character is able to memorize. With each new memorized book, the power of the spell grows.
